TLDR: Using AI-powered computer vision and sorting technology, Sort A Brick cleans, sorts, and repackages the customers’ used toy building bricks into play-ready sets, helping them save time, money, and the environment.
Company Mission: Sort A Brick is on a mission to bring billions of neglected toy-building bricks back to life!
Our sorting service addresses the problem of overconsumption by offering a sustainable alternative to buying new toy construction sets. It lets people conveniently reuse their existing LEGO collections, reducing plastic waste and supporting the circular economy. This service helps families save money while contributing to a lower ecological footprint.
Founders: Ilya Malkin: Co-Founder and CEO, is a seasoned entrepreneur with multiple successful business exits and extensive experience in management consulting and hospitality industries.
Aurimas Slapšys: Managing Director, contributed to the success of Lithuania's first unicorn, Vinted, a popular C2C marketplace for secondhand clothing, where he worked as both developer and manager.
Business Model: Unused LEGO® bricks are often considered too valuable to discard. However, when mixed and unorganized, they have limited utility. To realize their true value, they must be sorted into assembly-ready sets.
At Sort A Brick, we transform your used LEGO® bricks into complete, assembly-ready sets, letting you enjoy them once more or sell them at a premium. We currently restore used bricks into original sets and will soon offer custom brick models created by independent artists. If some bricks are missing from a set, we’ll source the missing pieces for you at an additional cost.
Our goal is to price our set restoration service at about one-third of the original retail price, delivering three times the brick-building fun for the price of a single new set. Restored sets can also increase the resale value of used bricks by 6 to 10 times and maximize profits by as much as 8 times.
Through automated sorting, we aim to expand the market for used bricks by making it easier for sellers to monetize their collections and ensuring buyers access a broader supply of guaranteed-complete sets.
Quick Stats: We estimate that approximately 1.5 trillion LEGO pieces have been produced to date. Returning just 1% of these bricks into circulation as assembly-ready sets could generate an additional $500 to 700 million in value for the second-hand LEGO market.
By spring 2025, Sort A Brick seeks to raise a new investment round of €2,500,000 with international VC funds. With this funding, we plan to scale up our operations in Germany and expand to other European countries. We also plan to launch our services in the US in the future.
